Lo-Jacked
Original Air Date: July 29, 2007 AudioLink_2007_0729
Show Category: Addiction
Show Description: I am not sure what has been over-hyped more: Michael Vick or Lindsay Lohan. It seems Lohan has continued the path of jacking up her life through the continual use of substance abuse. But we aren't here to beat up on here like everyone else. We're here to offer hope and help; especially to the millions of families around this country that are facing the same problem. Where is the hope? Join the conversation as we examine the patterns of teenage addiction, and what families can do to overcome them.

You heard Allen's 6 Steps to Prevent a "Lindsay Lohan Like Situation in Your Own Family" live on the air. But here they are for you web listeners.
  1. Talk...Talk...Talk - Spend time in conversation with your kids. As a parent, you are not their friend.
  2. Get them involved; especially girls - Statistics show those involved in sports - particularly team sports - are less likely to be involved in drugs and drinking.
  3. Foundation in Faith. It surrounds them with healthy people and a purpose to life
  4. Eat Together - It is amazing how many people have published PhD papers basically making the point that families who eat together have a much higher probability of staying away from negative elements of life
  5. Monitor Use of Media - TV, Internet, etc... Know what your kids are watching and doing
  6. Be a Role Model - You are not their friend, you are their guide and their role model. What you do, is what your kids will do. If you don't fill their need for love and attention, they will look for it elsewhere.

Quotes to Live By
"The Word of God is not a self-help book nor a placebo to calm our fears. Neither is it a guide to career success or greater effectiveness in ministry. It is, in truth, a love letter that invites us to be embraced by the Lover who wrote the letter."
