Let Troy Anthony Davis Live
Original Air Date: July 14, 2007 AudioLink_2007_0714
Show Category: Law
Show Description: Tuesday is the day Troy Anthony Davis is scheduled to die. According to the courts, he killed a copy back in 1989. Since then 7 of the 9 witnesses have recanted their testimony either as a lie or as a misrepresentation of the truth. Yet Troy Anthony Davis is still set to die on Tuesday. This is wrong Georgia. It isn't even wrong just because he might be innocent. It is wrong because killing is wrong and that is exactly what the people of Georgia are sanctioning if we go ahead and kill this man on Tuesday. Allen shared these on the air, but here are his 10 reasons he is against the death penalty:
  1. Life belongs to God. He values each life
  2. We have executed at least 24 innocent people since 1900. Can you imagine?
  3. The death penalty does not appear to be a deterrent to crime
  4. Killing is wrong. Two wrong don't make a right.
  5. Executions do not provide closure or healing for the victim's families. It is just one more death
  6. Executions are more costly than life with out parole
  7. Life with out parole is actually a more severe punishment because it gives the criminal time to reflect on what he has done.
  8. Life with out parole gives the criminal the time for repentance and change of heart for spiritual healing
  9. The death penalty is applied unequally - for example it is most often applied in black on white crime
  10. Can you really imagine Jesus pulling the lever on the electric chair
