Show Description: In 1951, author L Ron Hubbard developed the religious philosophy of Scientology which is based on his ?discovery? that man is most fundamentally a spiritual being. The growth of Scientology was initially driven by the sale of his book, "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health". Scientology holds that each of us is immortal and that as one physical body dies, the spiritual being attached to that body then moves onto a new life in a new body. This religious philosophy morphed into a religious following, and in 1954, the first Church of Scientology began operation in California. The Church of Scientology now boasts of 8 million members in 120 countries around the world. Some of its celebrity members include Tom Cruise and John Travolta. While the Church of Scientology looks, to many, like a functioning church, there is much more than anecdotal evidence that there are many dark undercurrents which make the Church of Scientology appear more like a cult. There are many reports of the Church?s insatiable appetite for its member?s money, brainwashing, forced labor, and threats and intimidation against former members or individuals who speak-out against Scientology. In my opinion, Scientology is a dangerous cult, and it should be exposed for what it is.
