Show Description: The United States Supreme Court recently ruled that federal drug laws take precedence over state laws regarding the use of medical marijuana to relieve pain. According to the Supreme Court, patients suffering from persistent nausea, vomiting and debilitating pain cannot take marijuana, to alleviate the symptoms, if a doctor prescribes the marijuana. Apart from medical marijuana consumption, approximately 28 million Americans currently use marijuana for recreational purposes. While marijuana use is illegal, state and federal governments allow alcohol consumption, tobacco consumption, gambling and adultery. None of these practices are necessarily good for you, but they are not illegal. Why is that? Maybe it has something to do with the tax revenues generated by their consumption. My faith tells me that marijuana use is wrong, but I do not think that it should be illegal. We are blessed by God to live in a free and open society. In my mind, that freedom should allow each of us to make decisions about what, and what not, to put into our bodies. I believe that each of us has the ability to make the right moral decision regarding what products to consume. State and federal governments need to stay out of our lives and allow us to make our own decisions, even if those decisions are bad ones.

Quotes to Live By
"Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desire, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."
