Show Description: The school voucher program (Opportunity vouchers) is a primary component of Governor Jeb Bush?s A+ Education Plan that was made into law in 1999. Opponents and proponents gathered in Tallahassee, this week, as the Florida Supreme Court heard the case to determine whether the nation?s first statewide private school voucher program is legal. Many states around the nation are watching the proceeding, in Florida, to see what precedent is set. The school voucher program allows students, attending failing schools, to attend private or parochial schools at taxpayer expense. The majority of the 700 students currently using the vouchers are either black or Hispanic, and the majority of students in the program are attending private schools run by churches. Many opponents of the voucher program base their opposition on the fact that state education funds are funding private religious schools (a perceived separation of church and state issue). I know why the state teacher?s union is fighting the vouchers, but I am not sure why other opponents have lined-up against the vouchers. Removing a child from a failing school, offering them an opportunity for a better education, and, for the majority of students, allowing them to attend schools governed by religious doctrine seems like a win, win, win. This sounds like a program worth supporting. Should the Opportunity vouchers be legal? Do you want your child to have the opportunity to take advantage of the program? I say 'Yes'!

Quotes to Live By
"The Word of God is not a self-help book nor a placebo to calm our fears. Neither is it a guide to career success or greater effectiveness in ministry. It is, in truth, a love letter that invites us to be embraced by the Lover who wrote the letter."
