When I saw the story about the city of Fort Myers Beach firing their town manager, Scott Janke, at first I was outraged. Janke married a porn star. The city said that news could be disruptive to city affairs (no pun intended). Frankly, that is a poor reason to terminate someone - assuming Janke has been doing his job with excellence.
Do I agree with his marrying a porn star? No. That is a poor decision even if she is a fine person as Janke describes her. Having a mate who is sexually intimate with other people, not to mention in a public forum, robs the marriage of true intimacy and exclusivity. Those are the hallmarks of a healthy marriage.
But is that a fireable offense? No.
What really interested me was how Janke reconciles his wife's sexual "work" with the very concept of marriage in the first place. So I asked him. We spoke on the phone today and you can listen here.
I'll talk more about this on the show this weekend.
Janke is a nice guy, and I appreciate his willingness to be honest with me. He has a fundamental misunderstanding of what marriage is, but he should never have been fired for that.
[And thanks to show listener (and porn advocate) Mike South who makes for an unlikely supporter of the show but offered to arrange my conversation with Janke.)Even though we see things differently, I do love Mike.]

Description
The Allen Hunt Show is about faith and life, plain and simple. According to a Gallup Poll in May of 2005, 85% of Americans consider their faith important or fairly important to their lives. Yet there is a gap on the talk radio airwaves that examines where faith and life come together. This show fills that gap like nothing currently on the radio. This is not one more political talk show, nor is it another faith-based counseling show because ultimately, life is not about what is right or left, but about what is right and wrong. The Allen Hunt Show takes on real life issues, with real life people, to see how faith can have a real impact. Join us on Saturdays from 9-12 PM and Sundays from 6-9 PM. Blessings!

It's Ok to be different and still respect each other. If everyone on earth were like me or like you it wouldn't be a very interesting place.
Oh and Allen...excellent job on that interview man.
I have deep respect for anyone who can maintain objectivity and civility in a situation where his morality is being confronted...Hats off to both you and Scott for being exactly the kinds of people I like to have as friends.
There are a lot of talk show hosts who could learn a lot from you man.
Allen, I think you take a way too narrow view of what a marriage is. For one you calling it "infidelity" and saying that she "cheats" on him on a regular basis as you did on your show. But infidelity/cheating is not the case here as Anabel's actions are done with full knowledge and blessing of Scott. That would also apply to open marriages, where sexual exclusivity does not apply (and where it isn't "just work" either).
Just because sexual exclusivity is the "default setting" of marriages in our culture does not mean it's the only valid option. It's not for everyone for sure, but that does not make the other choices any less proper.
I don't think Scott is right that porn sex is not "sex" (if it's not sex what is it?) but I would say it is not "sexual intimacy". As such I can definitely see him separating "work sex" from "intimate sex" his wife has for him.
By the way, did anyone else looked up samples of Jazella Moore's work first thing after reading about this story?
projection.
Maybe your God should take a wrath management class.
Its not a projection it is a reality. Its human nature to defend what they have or to try and comfort themselves if they do not have the balls to admit when they are wrong. In essence if they have too much pride as human pride keeps people from God which is a truth, to say its not is as much as an objective statement as mine if mine can even be considered objective.
My God does not need a wrath management class if everything he does is holy and good, he has every right to be angry - and quite frankly it would not matter if he didn't have every right as he is in charge. He is a loving God but a powerful God and one that should be feared. That is what people don't understand, the fear of God. Just because he is a merciful, good, and loving God does not mean he is not an all powerful Being that can do as he pleases when he pleases. I would not recommend testing his will.
Its not unloving to tell somebody they are wrong. In fact it is more loving for me to point out ignorance than to let it go unchecked. I would question if you really know what love is cause its not walking around saying everybody is right or telling the dumb ones they are smart, the fat ones they are skinny. Truth is love and a hard truth does not equate to being an asshole.

Holy books are a dime a dozen really.
And many parts of the Bible have been shown to be false. For example, the universe was not made in 6 days about 6000 years ago. Plants did not come into being before the Sun - or angiosperms ("fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself") before sea animals or birds before land animals. There is no water above the "firmament" (to think of it, there is no such thing as a firmament either). So many errors in the first chapter alone! To list all the errors in the Bible would take about as long as would listing all the sins of Freck
it doesn't even have to be your main email address, just a valid one. Hell, you could even make up an email account or alias just for this forum if you wanted.
Andy, how are you doing? Long time no hear from ...
A taunting is the only reply you have? I'm not surprised, but I am surprised that the word retard is so offensive but essentially talking crap with pictures is ok. Where is the respect I deserve on this one, Anthony? This is a good distraction from the conversation at hand though.
Parts of the Bible are only "proven" false depending on what scientist you prefer to believe. Obviously someone that wants to live for themselves and not God, someone that wants to deny God is gonna choose to follow the scientists that have "confirmed" His "contradictions", it makes you feel more comfortable in your sin but I'm sure it provides no overall comfort in day to day life and it definately won't in the end. Maybe I just didn't realize you were there to see the plants pop up before the sun came into being.
You do seem to be digressing from the orginal conversation though which says if you are going to be the one to say what is wrong and right and what is right for one person may not be right for another person, lord cainanite, (lower cased lord because you are actually powerless despite what you think) than where do your morals come from? What do you know about all of mankind that makes you the one to judge or should I ask what power do you hold that alllows you to assert what is ok and not ok to do. Your stating that open marriages are ok and its normal for people to have sex with multiple partners outside of wedlock (and I could go on and on with your corrupt beliefs) but all this is just your opinion not a law for the world. If you actually think you are right and you are arguing for your side then you are a forcing your lack of morals just as much as I am pushing for real morals. Does this make you a liberal, accepting, free thinking spirit? Is that what liberalism is...making up morals? If you think your morals (or should I say lack there of) is right and better for society for whatever odd reason you can come up with, I find that bazaar. I feel like you are trying to force your morals, which is the lack of morals, on society.
So maybe you find the holy Bible which spits only truth below your line of intelligence. I guess you think you are the all knowing one that can write morals for society and judge people good and evil. If you know better than the Bible than you by default advocate to replace the Bible with your intellect. If this is the case you need to document all these beliefs you have made up very quickly and create one of the dime for a dozen "holy" books and for the record the category of "holy" books does not include the Bible.
