Faith Inventory06/11/08Faith Inventory
Over the weekend, I shared a simple faith inventory I developed to help you evaluate the quality and strength of your faith life.
1) The Fruit Test - Galatians 5.22-23 shows us that our spiritual lives should bear at least 9 fruit. Love, joy, peace Patience, kindness, goodness Faithfulness, gentleness and self-control Do you see more of these fruit in your life than you did a year ago? If so, your faith life is getting stronger. If not, there is a problem. Which of these fruit are most plentiful in your spirit? Take an inventory. 2) The Prayer Test - Do you have a regular prayer life? A regular way of connecting with God and being in His presence? That is the lifeline for any faith life. Without that, your faith life will continually struggle. Describe and evaluate your prayer life. Doing so will help you rate the quality of your faith life right now. 3) The Generosity Test - Do you give generously? To causes and ministries that are important to you. To people in need. Generosity grows your faith life. Giving causes you to depend more on God and trust Him for your life. Giving generously also helps you experience the grace of God in becoming less self-centered and more focused on the lives of others. A great way to test yourself - look at your tax returns and see if you gave away more of your income this year than last year. Did you? If so, your faith life is probably growing forward. If not, take steps to grow in generosity. 7 comments
Great test. You should make refrigerator magnets with these questions on it.
Here's one you should put on your refrigerator: Never turn to the Catholic Church for guidance, truth, peace, hope, joy, love, etc.

I wish Ken would elaborate on that. I don't understand what he means. Is there something wrong with the Catholic church?

Thanks for asking Erik. While it is good to have Kenneth back on the blog after an extended hiatus from his commenting, I must admit that his stance on Catholicism is a bit unclear. He may be a closet Papist (JK).

Ignore that rude interruption, Ken. Now tell me, is it possible that the Pope is the anti-Christ? Please give as detailed an explanation as you think necessary.
Question: Is the pope an Antichrist?
Yes. Is he - pope Benedict XVI - the Antichrist? No. However, all who oppose Jesus Christ are antichrists. To support the Roman Catholic Church (RCC), to be a member of it, is an affront to the word of God. To say that salvation (i.e. "forgiveness of sins" - past, present and future) comes from Rome's "priests and sacraments" says that Jesus Christ's atonement for our sins is not good enough. According to the RCC, His shed blood was not good enough to wash away the stain of sin in me or you. You have to go to a priest for forgiveness (beginning with the sacrament of Baptism - the "first and chief sacrament") and after Baptism your sins need forgiveness again by a priest, through the sacrament of Penance. That is, for one, a lie from Satan, and complete and utter nonsense. Read for yourself Rome's means of salvation/justification: "In the forgiveness of sins, both priests and sacraments are instruments which our Lord Jesus Christ, the only author and liberal giver of salvation, wills to use in order to efface our sins and give us the grace of justification" (Roman Catechism, I, 11, 6). CCC 987 “Our Lord tied the forgiveness of sins to faith and Baptism: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved." Baptism is the first and chief sacrament of forgiveness of sins because it unites us with Christ, who died for our sins and rose for our justification, so that "we too might walk in newness of life.” - CCC 977 But wait Erik: . . . Yet the grace of Baptism delivers no one from all the weakness of nature. On the contrary, we must still combat the movements of concupiscence that never cease leading us into evil " - CCC 978 ..."Yet the grace of Baptism delivers no one" So much for being tied ("the Lord tied the forgiveness of sins to faith and Baptism") Oh no, I'm not saved! The cheap man-made grace from Baptism administered by a priest did not wash my sins away, so I need to go to a priest (a man) again for forgiveness after I sinned - after Baptism: “It is through the sacrament of Penance that the baptized can be reconciled with God and with the Church: Penance has rightly been called by the holy Fathers "a laborious kind of baptism." This sacrament of Penance is necessary for salvation for those who have fallen after Baptism, just as Baptism is necessary for salvation for those who have not yet been reborn.” - CCC 980 Rome has always made a living playing on its followers fears. For centuries they kept their flock at bay by giving out indulgences (I call it Satan's extortion and they're still in use today; Google "Lourdes indulgence") and have the so-called "power of the keys" (the sacraments) to brandish at will, to further complicate the matter of salvation. Jesus said, "follow Me," not the Church. Yet, over a billion souls look to Rome for the answers when in fact, Jesus Christ is the only answer - the only One who could pay for ours sins - by shedding His blood, dying and living again for our justification. Here's some homework Erik concerning the Antichrist. Read the following and I'll get back to you. Perhaps we can discuss this over some coffee in Athens since we both live there. Question: What Church is seeking world peace ("pacifist"); seeking "peace with creation" ("ecologist"); and is seeking ecumenical ties ("ecumenist") with not just the other "Christian communities" separated by the schisms years past, but is seeking interreligious dialogue/solidarity with the world's religions too - especially Islam? www.zenit.org/article-19030?l=english “But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” – Hebrews 9: 11-14 Leave a comment |
