I Still Remember
I still remember. Yes, I do.

I was taking my senior leadership on a retreat to the mountains of NC when I pulled into the post office in Cedar Mountain, NC, and was met by a woman sharing the news. My reaction was shock and denial.

We drove rapidly to the place we were staying. Turned on the TV. Could not believe my eyes.

Planes slashing through towers. The Pentagon. PA field. No words to describe the feelings - horror, fear, worry, shock. Words fail.

2973. 2973 people died that day. And the world came to see the roots and DNA of Islam in a way we had not previously before.

We are at war. A way of life is at stake. Islamic supremacists desire a world bowed before Allah. No freedom to choose - only sharia law.

Their methods are ingenious and varied - legal and illegal immigration, high birth rates, radical madrassahs, American culture-specific public schools, nuclear bombs, suicide bombs, cultural accommodation, intimidation.

Make no mistake - we are at war.

I still remember.

Gravatar.com I remember how silent the skies were. Having been a pilot's wife since 1980, with the Navy first and Delta now, I have always been aware of what is over my head. In those erie days begining at noon that day when the entire country's air service was grounded, the silence from the air was deafening. I went running the next morning and felt as though I was in a horrible Twilight Zone episode.

That's how quickly evil can eradicate peace.

Allen's producer here - we met about a month ago in the office. I didn't know your husband was a pilot. I am the biggest aviation nerd on the entire planet and am always fascinated to meet people in the aviation biz. What equipment does your husband fly?

I remember flying 9 days after 9/11 - routed from LAX-FWA through ORD. It was by far the eeriest flight I had ever been on. If memory serves me correct, they (United) combined three 747 red-eye flights into one 757 flight because so many people canceled their flight reservation. Everything was so silent and quite - at check-in, security, terminal and plane. I'll never forget that.

P.S. It was actually on a Delta DEN-ATL flight in 2000 that I felt God calling me away from being a pilot and into ministry - but that is another story for another time.

Gravatar.com Hey Andy!
He flies 767 ER...all the Africa and Europe flights. He's in Rome even as we speak. He was on the runway ready to take off to Narita, Japan the morning of 9/11; his plane got called back to the gate and disembarked and called home right away so we were comforted early.

I flew to CA for a pastor's conference with two staff mates on 9/23/01. Security was very stringent and I was embarrassed as they undid my entire suitcase and pulled my panty hose, etc. out of my running shoes where I had them all rolled up. Nothing like the Senior Pastor standing there as your unmentionables are mentioned!

That's funny you say that. I was appalled at LAX security when I flew out because when I got to ORD I realized that I had a pocket knife in my carry-on. I remember sitting at ORD thinking, should I keep it, should I turn it in, should I throw it away and not tell anyone.

Ahh, is it the 763 or 764 or both? Will he train for the 787 once Delta orders them (which we all know they eventually will) or is he too close to retirement to learn new types? I think that plane will be amazing!

P.S. Did I tell you I was an aviation nerd.

Lazy, shiftless huh? I am on vacation and I am moderating your comments. You're the one who took last week off to go to Minnesota and left me with nothing to do.

Gravatar.com That day will always be remembered in my mind. It feels just like yesterday, i was sitting in my high school computer class, watching the 2nd plane hit the buildings live on TV. I remember thinking this is like pearl harbor. Never forget! We are still at war!

What's Allen Up To?

Description
The Allen Hunt Show is about faith and life, plain and simple. According to a Gallup Poll in May of 2005, 85% of Americans consider their faith important or fairly important to their lives. Yet there is a gap on the talk radio airwaves that examines where faith and life come together. This show fills that gap like nothing currently on the radio. This is not one more political talk show, nor is it another faith-based counseling show because ultimately, life is not about what is right or left, but about what is right and wrong. The Allen Hunt Show takes on real life issues, with real life people, to see how faith can have a real impact. Join us on Saturdays from 9-11 PM and Sundays from 6-9 PM. Blessings!
