Summer Reading for Leaders
Lots of good reading this summer. Here are the three best business/leadership books I have read.

1) Made to Stick - by Chip and Dan Heath.
What a great book! Focuses on why some ideas make it and others fade away. 6 great principles for communicating as a manager, leader, or speaker. Great for preachers as well - how to make sure folks get and remember your message. One of ten best books of last 10 years in my opinion.

2) The Five Dysfunctions of a Team - Patrick Lencioni
Excellent memorable work that teaches by narrative. Great insight into how to lead and direct a team. Helpful for business, church, education or even volunteer work.

3) Good to Great - Jim Collins
Everyone has heard of this by now. Came out several years ago. But makes the important distinction that leadership is about results and about humility - not ego or stature. Great lessons for a leader.

Gravatar.com I was listening to a radio program about the Wicka (sp?) religion and the influence that witches and witchcraft are having in our culture now, especially on children. I thought this might be a good topic for one of your shows.

Also, my wife and I were in Jacksonville FL for the fireworks on July 4 and heard the Pledge of Allegiance said over the loud speaker system and, following "one Nation" they dropped "under God" and went straight to "indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all." Something else to talk about your listeners might find interesting.

Gravatar.com I'd hate to see the three worst.

Here's an alternative list:

1) The Prince by N. Machiavelli.
A classic text. Recommended for both pastors and deacons.

2) Quotations by Mao Zedong.
Took his country from worst to first and bedded many beautiful women, despite being fat, unattractive and Chinese. Only killed 50 million people in the process.

3) Glengarry Glenross by D. Mamet.
Not technically a book but my generation is illiterate. Good for team-building and general motivation.

4) Gospel according to St. Mark author unknown.
The 7 habits of highly effective saviors. Spoiler Alert: Original ending is a downer.

Love in Christ,
Erik

Gravatar.com John, believe it or not, that is the original pledge of allegiance. The words "under God" were added in the 50s, in a blatant violation of the establishment clause of the 1st Amendment.

I actually agree with this - I might be the only Christian who thinks this, but frankly, "Under God" probably shouldn't be in the pledge of allegiance. It would be one thing if the pledge were just a historically patriotic entity (i.e. God Bless America). But the pledge is actually apart of the US Code - thus the US Government is sanctioning the pledge and all that is within it.

Gravatar.com I hate it when Andy says things that are eminently reasonable. Takes all the fun out of nemesing.

What's Allen Up To?

Description
The Allen Hunt Show is about faith and life, plain and simple. According to a Gallup Poll in May of 2005, 85% of Americans consider their faith important or fairly important to their lives. Yet there is a gap on the talk radio airwaves that examines where faith and life come together. This show fills that gap like nothing currently on the radio. This is not one more political talk show, nor is it another faith-based counseling show because ultimately, life is not about what is right or left, but about what is right and wrong. The Allen Hunt Show takes on real life issues, with real life people, to see how faith can have a real impact. Join us on Saturdays from 9-11 PM and Sundays from 6-9 PM. Blessings!
